🤝 Supported by: UNICEF & Partners
In response to the widespread displacement caused by severe flooding in Beledweyne, HIDIG has officially opened an Emergency Health Center in Ceel Jaale—the largest IDP settlement for those affected by the disaster. This vital intervention ensures life-saving healthcare for thousands of families who have been forced to flee their homes.
🏥 Ceel Jaale Emergency MCH/OPD Facility:
The center is a full-service health facility, established after the original Kooshin MCH was inundated by floodwaters. HIDIG, with support from UNICEF and local authorities, quickly mobilized staff, equipment, and supplies to Ceel Jaale to maintain uninterrupted services.

Key services include:
- Primary Health Consultations (OPD)
- Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Services
- Emergency Nutrition for Children and Pregnant/Lactating Women
- Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Activities
- 24-Hour Emergency Service Coverage
🌊 Background:
The floods affected nearly 80% of Beledweyne town, displacing over 55,000 families to higher ground such as Ceel Jaale, Farmajabaaleey, Baladadnuur, and Dabeyl. HIDIG participated in joint government-NGO assessments and identified the urgent need for health services within these new IDP locations.
📸 Field Update from 24 October 2019:
As shown in the photo, the new center is equipped with clear signage and is fully staffed. Health workers from the former Kooshin center are now serving around the clock, ensuring that displaced families continue receiving medical care without interruption.
🗣️ HIDIG Statement:
“By acting fast to relocate our health team to Ceel Jaale, we’ve ensured that vulnerable women and children don’t lose access to essential health services in this time of crisis,” said HIDIG’s Field Coordinator in Beledweyne.
