3. Challenges
There were few challenges noted in this reporting period this were:
- Severe drought coupled with poor livelihood in the area compromise poor health status with limited access to assistant
- Poor community perception on immunization specially these newly drought displaced population from areas where previously were control of AS hence taking time to convince the parent to vaccinate their children
- Restricted movement in far rural areas due to conflicts between somalia national army against AS who are trying to cross the neighboring Ethiopia country hence affecting poor people in the rural area
- Limited funding and existing gaps and needs for health services in the area, this coupled with drought displaced population with large number of children from AS restricted locations who have not had immunization and hence the limited funding might affects
- Lessons learn
Community health education integrated with nutrition services have provided a platform for identification of children <5 boys, girls with needs for vaccination hence provided adequate preventive immunization services
- Way forward
The project has come to an end when the needs in the area is way above the threshold in humanitarian setting and thus HRDO have the following as a way forward.
- Intensify the resources mobilization for the activity continuation to enable ensure live of vulnerable children and mothers is saved
- Coordinates with the local administration in Xudur district Bakool region to note the gap in the locations
- Utilize the fixed health sites and the available supplies for effective treatment of the vulnerable drought affected children boys, girls and pregnant and lactating women
