🧼 HIDIG & UNICEF Distribute Full Hygiene Kits to 2,500 Displaced Households in Ceel Jaale
📍 Location: Ceel Jaale, Beledweyne District, Hiran Region
📅 Date: 6 November 2019
👥 Implemented by: HIDIG Relief and Development Organization
💧 Supported by: UNICEF
In an effort to combat the growing risk of waterborne diseases among families displaced by floods, HIDIG, in partnership with UNICEF, conducted a large-scale distribution of essential hygiene kits to 2,500 vulnerable households in Ceel Jaale village, the largest IDP settlement in Beledweyne District.
🧺 Hygiene Kit Contents per Household:
- 3 Plastic Water Buckets
- 2 Portable Water Carriers with Lids
- 5 Bars of Soap
- Chlorine Water Purification Tablets (sufficient for multiple weeks of use)

This timely intervention comes amid increasing public health concerns in overcrowded displacement sites. The hygiene kits are designed to ensure families have access to safe water, proper handwashing tools, and the ability to maintain basic sanitation in harsh living conditions.
📸 Visual Evidence:
As seen in the photo taken on 6 November 2019, the distribution point was well-organized and clearly marked with banners from HIDIG and UNICEF. Blue tents served as the base for kit delivery and public awareness activities around hygiene and health.
🌍 Impact:
The distributed kits are helping prevent outbreaks of diarrhea, cholera, and other diseases commonly triggered by stagnant floodwaters and poor sanitation. HIDIG teams also used the opportunity to raise awareness on safe water practices and hand hygiene, especially for mothers and children.
🗣️ HIDIG Statement:
“We recognize that without clean water and hygiene tools, the health of displaced families is at great risk. This distribution is a vital part of our emergency response and a continuation of our commitment to flood-affected communities in Hiran,” said HIDIG’s Health Program Manager.
